Graco Spree Travel System Review

Graco Spree Travel SystemWhile I do not have first-hand experience with this model, I did recommend it to my sister-in-law and her husband. They’ve been using it for about a month now, and they love it. For parents and babies on the go, the Graco Spree Travel System can get you there fast. The all-in-one systems are perfect for getting infants in and out of the car without disturbing their sleep. The stroller has the one-fold system design that I love, and holds children up to 44 pounds; the car seat holds infants up to 22 pounds; this means you’ll get plenty of use out of both pieces. Another nice feature is that it is self-standing once folded, so you don’t have to lean it up against anything or hold it up with your hands. It offers convenience, comfort and style, which is a unique combination when it comes to strollers and travel systems. The base for the car seat stays in the car, making it quick and easy to snap the car seat in and out. When you have an infant, finding faster and more efficient ways to get things done is your new #1 goal!

Features

The Graco Spree Side ViewBoth the car seat and the stroller have adjustable canopies for protection from the sun, wind and other elements. They are not removable, although they do fold all the way back for days when you don’t need them. There is no viewing window on either the stroller or the car seat. The parent’s tray has two cup holders and storage compartment. The stroller is equipped with the one-hand fold feature and stands on its own when folded. You can’t truly appreciate this feature until you have your hands full and are trying to get your baby into the car, put the groceries in the trunk and store the stroller, all at the same time.

Handles, Wheels and Brakes

The handle on the car seat is adjustable for carrying and for riding in the car. Simply push in the buttons at the sides and lock into whatever position you want. The handlebar on the stroller is not adjustable but is at a height that will be comfortable for most. There are six wheels in total, 2 double sets in front, and 2 in back, and all made of plastic and all are 8”. The front wheels swivel and are lockable. The suspension gives a smooth and comfortable ride over most any terrain and ensures smooth maneuverability. The brakes on the back wheels can be engaged easily with a push of your foot. Each wheel has a separate braking system.

Storage

The stroller has a large storage basket underneath that will hold a decent sized diaper bag, as well as a purse, groceries or other medium sized things. There is also a parent console with 2 cup holders and a compartment that can hold small items like keys, wallet and a cell phone. When you have an infant, there seems to an endless list of supplies you need to take with you, even for quick trips to the store. This travel system has a large enough storage bin so you can take that extra-large diaper bag with you.

Seats

The Graco Spree Infant Car Seat

Top-rate infant car seat with extra insert for better support

The infant car seat has an extra insert for supporting baby’s head and neck. You only need to use this extra padding for about 6 weeks or so. It is removable and washable, as is the padding in the car seat itself. The material is easily washable in the machine on the delicate cycle, with some warm water and mild detergent. (It always amazed me at how such tiny beings could spit up so much!) The padding on the stroller is also removable and can be washed the same way. The material is fairly thick on both the car seat and stroller, so kids will be more than comfortable. There are 5-point harness belts on both units as well. The infant car seat is one of the top-rated items in various publications and magazines. The stroller seat reclines so when your child is ready for a nap, they can sleep comfortably.

Size, Dimensions and Weight

The car seat holds infants up to 22 pounds, and the stroller has a maximum weight recommendation of 40 pounds. The dimensions of the stroller are 40.5″ x 19.5″ x 27.0″ (height x width x depth). When folded, the dimensions are 17” x 41” (height x depth). The stroller weighs about 21 pounds, and the car seat is about another 10 or so. It has the one-hand folding system, and stands on its own when folded. It will fit into pretty much any sized trunk, even smaller cars like a Toyota Corolla or Ford Focus.

Pros

The Graco Spree Travel System is a great all-in-one package that saves you time and energy when it comes to running errands or just going out for an afternoon of adventure. The car seat snaps easily and securely in place, both in the car seat base, and the stroller.

The five-point harnesses on both the stroller and the car seat make it more secure and safe for your child.

The one-hand and self-standing fold options make storing quick and easy.

The stroller is quite easy to maneuver; you can often do it one-handed. It will go over most terrain, including malls, around corners, gravel and asphalt.

Graco is a great brand name for many baby products, and they built their reputation for making quality products – this stroller system is no exception.

Cons

The infant seat straps adjust at the back of the seat, not the front. This makes the adjustment more accurate, but it does take more time.

If you’re looking for something made in the U.S., you’ll be disappointed with this one; it’s made in China. That doesn’t affect the overall quality, however.

Accessories

The Graco Spree Travel System comes with the car seat base. This makes it easy to get the car seat in and out of your vehicle. The base just stays in the car, and the seat snaps in and out. It locks into place easily, without disturbing your baby. It’s perfect for parents on the go, or when you have several errands to run and have to take your child in and out of the car several times in a short period of time.

If you order this product from Amazon, you get a certified ‘frustration-free’ packaging guarantee. This means you won’t spend hours trying to get the darn thing opened.

This model also comes with the extra padding for newborns that you put into the car seat to give your baby a bit of extra support for the first few weeks.

Consumer Reviews and Ratings

Most consumers who have purchased the Graco Spree Travel System have been giving it great reviews. My sister-in-law and her husband are extremely pleased as well. Online reviews from consumers have said they love the fact that it can fold easily and stands on its own when folded; they love the neutral color and the affordable price; and they are very pleased with the overall quality and maneuverability. The one con that several have stated is that the harness on the car seat is adjustable on the back, instead of the front, making it a bit more time consuming. Other than that, this all-in-one is an ideal choice for those looking for a complete system.
